CENTENNIAL
SEFER TORAH L'DOROT
“Write
a letter in the Torah and feel the breath of eternity”
– RABBI CHARLES GRYSMAN, RABBI IN-RESIDENCE, ASSOCIATED
HEBREW SCHOOLS
The
Torah is the timeless wellspring of Jewish thought and wisdom,
endlessly linking and empowering the generations of the Jewish
People. For 100 years Associated Hebrew Schools has guarded
and sustained
the Torah while it has guided and spiritually sustained Associated.
Our
gift to the future generations of Associated will be our Torah
L’Dorot, a new Torah scroll being scribed in Israel
especially for the School, which will provide the opportunity
to truly link the generations of Associated students.
A
Mitzvah of a Lifetime
We
joyfully invite our students, parents, alumni and those in
the community to join us in fulfilling the 613th mitzvah of
“writing” a new Sefer Torah in honour of Associated’s
Centennial.
A
donation to our Torah campaign is your opportunity to join
with children and grandchildren in demonstrating our commitment
to the tradition and values that have brought us to this 100-year
milestone and will sustain us through our next 100 years.
Funds raised will enable the completion and adornment of the
new Sefer Torah and will be directed to the five Centres of
Excellence that are the core of Associated’s future
plan.
A
Celebration for All
Associated students will have the opportunity to complete
a letter in the new Torah L’Dorot. In addition,
students at all grade levels will be involved in educational
and art projects focused on how the scrolls
are written and much more.
On
October 29, 2008, the new Sefer Torah will be welcomed to
its new home with a grand celebration
( Hachnasat Sefer Torah –Dedication Ceremony) involving
each and every Associated student, along with his/her parents
and grandparents. Community supporters and dignitaries will
also join us as we welcome the Sefer Torah, which will reside
at the Danilack Middle School where it will be used on a regular
basis by generations of Associated Students to come.
